Marriage and God’s Will

Many religious people believe that God wants us to get married first before mating.

Imagine if legislators make new laws that says, “Anyone that get married must cut out his cock.”

Will religious people still think that God wants us to get married first before mating?

Probably not. But who knows.

Why not?

Well, 2 reasons.

First there is nothing in the bible that says you got to cut off your genitals just to mate. But that’s not the biggest reason. Well, that’s arguable actually. For example http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2019:10-12

10His disciples say to him, `If the case of the man with the woman is so, it is not good to marry.’

11And he said to them, `All do not receive this word, but those to whom it hath been given;

12for there are eunuchs who from the mother’s womb were so born; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who kept themselves eunuchs because of the reign of the heavens: he who is able to receive [it] — let him receive.’

It’s interesting to see that the majority of apostles believe that marriage is a bad thing.

The same way there is nothing in the bible that says that women get half of your money, or that you can only have one, or that you can’t have concubines, you can’t try prostitute, or that  you can’t have sex outside marriage at all. Again that’s arguable.

After all, marriage rules are made by legislators, based on the will of swing voters. Whether it’s God’s will or not is beyond me. Last time I check, our legislators are humans, with hands and legs and stuffs. So are the voters.

The more important reason however, is that cutting off one genitals simply don’t match even religious bigots’ interest.

Religious bigots want everyone to get married, and then get married under terms favorable to them. Those terms usually defy principles of competition and meritocracy.

Unlike free sex provided by free market, most marriage terms are favorable to those who are less pretty, can’t attract mates, poor, or in anyway have less to offer to their mates.

Sticking to those with the least to offer is praised, while moving out to greener pastures, the way all market players should do, is frowned upon.

Being poor is not a ground for divorce. Being a stud is. Loyalty is cheapest for those least able to attract other mates, and become a main virtue of marriage.
